Reflections of 2010

Happy New Years Eve everyone!

As 2010 draws to a close, I thought it would be a good idea to reflect upon our year here at Your Dream Weddings & Events as well as close the year with some photos not yet seen on my blog.

This year has been very busy, both personally and professionally…personally not as great as professionally but lets stick to the professional part.

This year was full of new opportunities for Your Dream Wedding & Events…working with several non-profits like SHARE (the community food sharing program),  and Dream Team which I am a part of…having the privilege to judge a local teen pageant which focused on inner beauty and was a sponsor for a high-tech scavenger hunt.  We also of course got to work with many beautiful newlyweds this year…I am proud to be working in this industry…I love every part of it…working with the couple in every aspect of their wedding…especially when I get to do food and cake tastings as well as dress shopping with them…this helps me to really get to know each of our couple’s by getting to know their taste and styles.  Then there is the part of the planning…researching…contacting other wedding/event professionals (I just love all of the professionals I get to work with!)…designing…. Then last but not least, the wedding/event day!  Just seeing everything come together and make sure everything runs smoothly!  I know this what I am meant to do and love every part of it…

How many people can truly say that they love their job!  Let me rephrase that because this is not just a job, but a career I truly love!  Even when there are stressful times (and there are!)…at the end, it is all worth it!  Now how many people can say that about what they do?

Well I know many would prefer to see pictures so here are some pictures that I have not posted from this year…enjoy!

Lets start with the yummy pictures…CAKES!

Here are some decor pictures…

Don’t you just love the lantern! and it inside a a wreath of flowers and peacock feathers!

I love this candy table…her colors were black, white and lime green…she bought some of these treats and made some others…yes the picture is a little dark but after setting it up I had to take my own picture of it…here are some the photographer took…

Here are some other decor pictures…

(pic from iPhone…looks so much better on the phone)

And some shots I really liked from my photographers…

Doesn’t she look like she is doing a modeling photo shoot?

She made her grand entrance into the ceremony from the balcony…had to make sure she practiced going down the stairs…

We also had the privilege to be the first to plan a wedding  at this location…the Oriental Theatre on Farwell…Had the ceremony in here…GORGEOUS!!!…but had to really light up the place…

Oh and remember the model bride…well her wedding was the day after the one at the Oriental theatre…what a weekend that was!  My DJ can attest to that because he worked with me on both of those weddings!

I have so many more pictures but will leave it for next time…hope you enjoyed them and will be posting more next year!

Have a Happy New Year everyone!

Middle Eastern-themed wedding and Apprentice…

So, this past weekend I had the pleasure of doing a Middle Eastern-themed wedding up in Menomonie, Wisconsin which is a little more than 4 1/2 hours from where I am in Milwaukee.  The reception was held at the bride’s brother’s entertainment center…

Working with Mindy and Richard was wonderful even though I had not met them in person until the day before the event.  We did all of the planning over the phone and email…sending each other pictures to see what she wanted in linens and chairs like these…

They went with chivari chairs which makes any table setting look elegant…and they went with a Tiffany blue with gold runners…their wedding colors…

Although chivari chairs are wonderful without anything on them, they look even better with a tie…so this is what we did for them…it is beautiful seeing a sea of these…
Which then looked like this…

The bride and groom also brought these back with them to use as some of centerpieces…they were also given away as gifts to their families and guests…

Do you know what they are?

Aren’t they beautiful?  I just love it when couples personalize their weddings like this…showing their guests the traditions of locations they have been to and/or living in…this couple is not Saudi Arabian but have lived there!

The also brought back fabric from Saudi Arabia as well and used it for tables like this…on their cake table as a runner and also around the cake…it matched the gold on their cake perfectly!

Here is one with a blue fabric they brought back with them…and yes used small genie lanterns to hold up the place cards!

Here are some other pictures of their reception…and do you want to know what?  I took all of these photos on my iPhone!  They turned out beautifully!  I had my camera in the car, but did not have time to go get it so I thought I would give it a shot with my phone…you can do wonders with phones these days!

The candy table…the are lollipops in small bud vases…

Some more pictures from the reception…

I hope to get more pictures up soon…professional ones…which includes a surprise the bride and groom had for their guests…a belly dancer!

This was a great wedding but not only because I got to work with a wonderful couple and get to help them design this wedding…but like the second part of the title of this post says…Apprentice…

No it is not about the show…although the show can sometimes be very interesting…but I have a new apprentice and she is someone from one of the associations I am a member of and is wanting to learn all about wedding planning.

I brought her onto this wedding mainly because this wedding would give her much exposure to set up…one of the first things I did when I was an apprentice…it is extremely hands-on…wouldn’t you say so?…I mean she did help me tie all those chair ties and it takes a while to do…

That is what apprenticeship is about…the hands-on experience!  Many people learn from books about planning a wedding or some people even just go to weddings and plan their own…and they think because they like weddings and they liked planning their own, that they can become a wedding planner.  It is not that easy…and this is why I have seen many wedding planners come and go!  Some have done it for a year…and some have stuck with it for 5 years…but they end up leaving because it is a lot harder than they thought because they have not thought about all the different aspects of what a wedding planner has to do to be successful.

So, if you are interested in becoming a wedding planner…great!  Then please feel free to contact a wedding planner who has had their business for a while like myself and ask us questions and learn from us on what it really means to become a wedding planner.  If you have not done this before I am sure we will bring up things that you have not thought about…and then if you are still interested…then feel free to ask to become an intern or apprentice…I know I would be happy to give you the hands-on experience.

Some people do ask me…if you know they are going to be starting their own company, why do you offer to train them?  I tell them…brides, grooms and others look for many things when hiring a wedding/event planner…it is not only price, and experience, but they are looking for someone who will match the style and personality of the wedding/event planner to theirs…and everyone is different…so it is not competition…we also have to match our styles and personalities to these couples as well…or in the end it is going to be bad on both sides…

Well this is all for now…I do have more I will share later…

February Happenings

Hello all!

I know the title does not match the month…I cannot believe it is already March…where did February go?

Well although it is March, wanted to update all of you on what is going on with Your Dream Wedding & Events.

February has been a month full of new and exciting things…

First off…Share, is a nonprofit food buying club that offers good, nutritious products at reduced cost through a volunteer-run, community based distribution system, for those who are in need.  They are celebrating 25 years of serving the community and we have teamed up with them to plan this celebration at their warehouse in Butler, WI.  More details to come about their celebration but we are very excited to help them make this a great celebration for all of their volunteers…the 200+ people that take orders, put together the orders and help out at all of the host sites.

Second…I am on the committee for the annual NACE gala.  NACE is the National Association of Catering Executives and have been a member for a couple of years now.  Last year was the first one they held for the Southeastern Wisconsin chapter and it was wonderful!  We hope to make it even better this year!

Last, but not least…introducing…DREAM TEAM!!!

Dream Team is a nonprofit organization granting marital celebrations for those who have gone through various hardships…job loss…deployment…etc.  It was founded by Samantha Goldberg and we are proud to say that we are a part of the founding board.

Dream Team is currently accepting applications for recipients as well as dream granters (wedding professionals).

Please feel free to apply and contact us through Facebook..

As you can see, a lot of things are happening with us…stay tuned for updates!!!

January Happenings

Happy New Year!

Hope everyone is having a good year so far! I cannot believe January is almost over…

So as you can see I have not posted since October…the holidays have been crazy for me personally as well as for my business.

First off, I went to the Association of Bridal Consultants Business of Brides conference which was held in Indianapolis on the second week of November. It was wonderful to be able to learn about many different things, hearing from many successful wedding planner and meeting a lot of new people and connecting with those I already know. The highlight of my trip was hearing from Frank Andonoplas who is a fabulous Master Bridal Consultant in Chicago…talking about his past, his favs, etc…next highlight would be Peggy Post, the etiquette expert…she is one classy lady! Another is when we heard from Sylvia Weinstock who is the cake maker to the stars! It was great to see her creations! I would then say the final highlight would be seeing our state coordinator, Mary Charmoli become a Master Bridal Consultant along with several others…GO Wisconsin!!! We know she deserves it!

Here are some pictures from the conference…

Frank Andonoplas…

Mary Charmoli being presented as a Master Bridal Consultant (she is the first person on the right)

Here are some lovely decorations that the conference staff created…

A dessert we had that was made by a chocolatier…it was delish!

Few lovely centerpieces that were at different tables…

The following pictures are of a similar tablescape but in 3 different budget categories…

high…

mid…

and low..

Then came the holidays and we hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas so we were very busy planning the menu…for Thanksgiving made the traditional turkey with many many sides…and for Christmas we had steak, chicken drumsticks and thighs with many many sides…wish I had pictures of our feast but did not have time, but here are a couple of pictures of our centerpiece…very simple but chic…also needed something small so we could fit all the food on the table…

Now going back to business…right before Christmas, was contacted by our local paper, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, who interviewed me about why you should hire a wedding planner.  You can find the article here -

http://www.jsonline.com/weddings/80641637

We also were contacted by another person from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel to discuss other things about weddings…that will be in the special wedding issue in the paper which I believe is out now!

We also found out that a story of ours is being published in a book coming out in July by wedspace.com

Finally in January, we have had a lot happen this month for our business…I will be discussing some projects later as we get things rolling, but am very excited to work with these organizations…but one I can tell you about now is…

We launched our Association of Bridal Consultants Milwaukee Local Networking Group yesterday!!!  It was held at one of my florists studio at Moss Floral…

The flowers were created by Miki and Moss Floral and the linens provided by BBJ linen.

It was a wonderful time with a small group on a very cold day!  I am looking forward to next month…stay tuned for updates!

So this is it for now…although it was a lot of info…that is what I get for delaying this blog, but enjoy and feel free to contact us if you have any questions about anything on this blog!

I will have some pictures of weddings we need last year next month…we are also gearing up for this year’s weddings!  So very exciting!!!

Have a wonderful month everyone!

October Happenings

Filed under: Uncategorized — by dreamweddingwisconsin @ 11:19 PM

This month has been a really busy month for Your Dream Wedding & Events. We had 4 weddings this month, but was the last 4 of this year and the last one for this year was last weekend.

So whenever I get to a ceremony or reception site on the day of the wedding, I always seem to find new ways to add special touches and making tables look better than originally envisioned depending on what I have to work with. This normally happens when I find out that after our walk-through of the site that there are going to be additional items added to their wedding.

Here are a few I have done in the past and also recently…

The first one on the left, the middle and right pictures on the middle row, are from a reunion I did. I first saw the venue and then later found out about the budget and this is some of the centerpieces I came up with.

The middle picture on the first row is from a recent wedding. When we originally saw the venue, we had talked about doing the head table one way, but had to think about a different layout because of accessibility. This way, the bride and groom also had an intimate table for themselves while being there with the rest of their bridal party.

The picture on the right on the first row is the altar piece used at their ceremony. On the wedding day, after everything was set up it looked so much better there by the mirror which is the focal point when you enter the hall…so we put one on both sides of the mirrow…it also makes it look like there is more than 2 there.

The picture on the left second row is one I did recently. The bride decided to create pomanders that went on the aisle of the church and had not talked about what she wanted to do with them at the reception hall, so after looking into different options, decided to put them on the focal point of the room…using the ribbon handles and pearl-tipped pins.

The last picture on the third row is of a sand ceremony from last year. I had suggested to the bride and groom to doing a sand ceremony in order to incorporate her son and his sons. I did not know what these would look like and she included the cranberry looking balls and the ring with the birds, so on the day of made it look like this.

Now for some news!

“Fall In Love Bridal Show” will be held on December 6, 2009 from 3:00pm-6:00pm at Moss Floral Design Studio & School – 3391 South Kinnikinnic (KK) Avenue, Milwaukee, WI.

The bridal show will have some of the best wedding professionals in the area. We will also be giving away prizes and goodies for the engaged couples who attend.

As the title suggests, this bridal show is focused on the fall theme and open to those who are engaged, know someone who is engaged – mother, father of brides/grooms, bridal party, friends, etc…and bring your friends, we will also be providing food and drinks as well!

The second news I have is…

We were named “Best Wedding Planner ’09″ by the WISN A-List!”

http://wisn.cityvoter.com/winners/a-list-on-wisn-com/4736/weddings/wedding-planner

Thank you to all my couples and wedding professionals who voted for us!

See you all soon!
